Bubbles!

Poor little Will has had a bit of a difficult week but he is doing much better now. In my last post I mentioned that he was a little under the weather. Last Monday night he had a very difficult night coughing and not being able to sleep. Tuesday morning we took him to the pediatrician and the doctor determined that he had an ear infection and pneumonia- Will's first experience with both of those ailments. Yikes! We spent several hours at the doctor, including side trips to the radiology department for a chest x-ray and to the pharmacy. By the time we left Will was covered in stickers given to him by all of the nurses! Anyway, Will started a round of antibiotics and got a new inhaler to help with his breathing. He really did start to feel better quickly. By the next day he was acting more like himself and just a couple days later he seemed to be completely back to normal. We were very worried that David and I (and our houseguests!) would catch his illness but so far everyone else is healthy! Will and I went back to his doctor this morning for a follow up visit. The doctor asked me which ear had been infected and I told him the left. But when he looked in Will's left ear he thought I must have been mistaken because it looked so healthy. But I was right- it had been the left- it was just all clear! The doctor said that his lungs sounded clear and healthy and both ears looked great. So Will now has a clean bill of health!

Usually when we go to the doctor there is a lengthy wait in the waiting room. Will is often a challenge because he wants to run everywhere- including out the door every time it opens. But this morning he was very cooperative even though we waited for about a half an hour. He sat quietly and played with his car. He occasionally wanted to get up and down off my lap but overall he was like a mature little guy patiently waiting. When we went back to see the doctor, I put Will up on the table and he started to get a little anxious about the doctor's stethoscope. Dr. Font handed Will the chest piece part of the stethoscope to inspect. Will looked at the doctor like he was confused and then put it on his chest so the doctor could hear. He knew it was not a toy to play with and it was supposed to go on his chest. The doctor would move it around while Will held it on his chest while the doctor listened. It was very cute!

Will has had a great time playing with his Aunt Erica and Uncle Kyle. He is taking full advantage of all of the attention and he loves playing with a circle of people around him. Several times this week he has pulled all four of us down on the ground to color with him. And all of us must be coloring at the same time! One of his new favorite things to do is to blow bubbles in the back yard. The only problem is once he's out there, he doesn't want to ever come back inside! He knows where the bubbles are hidden and he often runs back to the laundry room and yells "bubbles!" He even pretends he's blowing bubbles when he gets his hands on a straw and cup. Sometimes when he is in bed and supposed to be napping we hear him whispering "bubbles."

On Saturday we took a trip to an outlet mall about an hour away. Erica and I did some shopping while Will, David and Kyle walked around. Will seemed to love being outdoors. We never even had to get the stroller out. He got to see some remote control boats in a little fountain area. Once he started trying to jump in to go swimming, though, he had to be moved elsewhere. He also apparently enjoys smelling bushes. Occasionally when he walks by bushes he sticks his face in them to smell like they are flowers.

Will also has a new fascination with doors. He loves to point out doors and today at the doctor's office he would yell "door open" everytime the door swung open. We have no idea why he loves doors but he seems to. Will has also decided that he loves corn on the cob. We had it for dinner a couple times during the last week and he insists on having his own. He can eat most of it off the cob and seems to enjoy the process. Such a midwestern boy! Finally, yesterday at the park Will took a special interest in a little girl who lives in the neighborhood. She was an older lady (almost 4!) but her and Will hit it off. She wanted to play with him and he followed her around. They shared some toys (and Will was actually sharing!). She was much more verbal than him and kept asking me what he was saying. She was adorable. She asked him if he was happy that she was at the park to play with him and she asked if we thought she was pretty. It was very cute! They climbed the stairs together and went down the slides together. Looked like love to us!

Will has a couple more days with his Aunt and Uncle and then he'll get to spend some time with his grandparents. Just the right amount of attention for Will!

Finally, I went back to the hospital last week for another ultrasound. This time the little guy was much more cooperative and they got the pictures they needed. I asked the tech to confirm that it was still a boy and it is! I got some better pictures. I haven't scanned them yet but maybe I'll do that and post them with the next update. I was surprised at how much bigger he was than the last ultrasound a few weeks ago. We seemed to have had a big growth spurt (both of us!). He is now kicking vigorously and seems to be getting stronger by the day. As of tomorrow I am 25 weeks. No more than 14 more weeks to go and we'll have a new little guy!
