Yesterday the boys and I went to Prattville for its annual Candywalk where kids can Trick-or-Treat at some of the businesses downtown. It was a lot more crowded than we had anticipated and we only did a few stores before we left. But Will liked seeing all of the other kids in costume. Today Will had a Halloween party at his Mom's Day Out class and then tonight we did Trick-or-Treating in the neighborhood. We were only out for a half an hour (which is about 8 houses at Will speed) then Will wanted to go home. He's had a long day (that started at 5 am) and I think he just wanted to get home to eat his candy. He enjoyed giving out candy to the Trick-or-Treaters at our house. Whenever we'd open the door Will would yell "Trick-or-Treat!" at the kids.
We've had a very, very busy October. Early in the month we had my mom, my sister and my niece, Savannah, visit. We did some fun things like visited Will's beloved Bass Pro Shop. We also went to a pumpkin patch at a local farm where we did a hayride and picked pumpkins. It was a nice fall event- but was about 90 degrees outside.
Mid-October we took a little trip to Charleston, SC. I went for a Continuing Legal Education class. We saw some old friends, checked on our house and enjoyed some tourist activities. We took the boys to see the water and did a carriage tour through downtown. The boys were about as well-behaved as we could have expected. While I was at my class David took the boys to the North Charleston Fire Museum. That really sealed the deal on Will wanting to be a fireman for Halloween.
Also in October David and I celebrated birthdays, 33 and 32, respectively. I made David a football cake for his birthday. When my birthday came around Will kept insisting on a basketball cake. We were in Charleston, though, so we made a stop for ice cream and had gourmet brownies. Maybe Will will get a basketball cake for his birthday.
Lukie had some good news in October- he started walking! Unfortunately, he still prefers to crawl and we have a hard time getting him to practice. He can do it, though. Most often he walks on his knees. We can't seem to convince him that it's faster to just walk on his feet! He'll get there, though. Luke has also started talking a lot more and is getting good at communicating. He can tell me when he wants to eat, sit at the table or get down from the table to play. He knows a lot of food words (milk, cheese, cracker). He's started to say "Zoe" and he tries to say "Will." It's clear, too, that he understands so much of what we say. Sometimes I'll be telling Will to put his shoes on so we can go somewhere and Luke is already heading to the back door before I'm even done talking. And when we mention a bath, he heads to the bathroom. When we mention going to bed or bedtime, he crawls the other way. Little Luke loves reading books and is always bringing me books to read. He doesn't always make it through them before he wants to get down to get another, but he tries. He even tries to "read" some of his favorites, like "Go, Dog, Go" or the Thomas the Train books.
Will is also doing much better talking. He answers more questions now and he is starting to ask questions in his own way. People other than me and David can understand what he's saying most of the time. Sometimes I let Will go into Luke's room first when Luke wakes up from his nap. Will opens the door, flips on the light and says "Hi, Lukie. Did you have a good nap?" It's really cute. They play pretty well together usually. Luke likes trying to do the things that Will does and Will likes being silly with Luke. Both seem to be growing quickly. Will is now 35.5 pounds and seems very tall all of the sudden. Luke seems to be filling out a little bit too (though not as much as his Dalmatian pictures show- he was wearing a few layers). His tummy issues seem to have settled down and he's eating a bit more. Both boys went to the dentist this week and got clean bills of health. Luke has 10 teeth and a couple more about to pop through. Will was a mature little man and let the hygienist clean and floss his teeth without any fuss. Sometimes Will acts like a three-year-old and other times he seems mature beyond his years. Depends on the day. He's learned a few new words to spell including "fire" and "Luke."
Last week we went to the base for the Sesame Street Experience for Military Families. We had a pretty good seat and Will got to touch Grover and a couple other characters. Luke has only seen Sesame Street a few times so he didn't know the characters but he did recognize Elmo ("Melmo" according to Luke). Will seemed to feel a bit too old for the show and asked to go home about half way through. He doesn't like to watch Sesame Street any more and we actually saw this same show while we were in Maryland. I told him we had to stay until the end though.
Will has been talking about Christmas and seems to have realized he can ask Santa for toys. Hopefully that means no more crying on Santa's lap pictures. So far he plans on asking Santa for a new bike (he rode one with training wheels in a store once) and a toy truck and horse trailer with toy horses that he saw at Bass Pro Shop. A few times this week, out of the blue, Will will come up to me and ask if I need to "wrap Will's presents." He's ready for Christmas!

| It looks like he's posing with the pumpkins but he's actually trying to stack them. He thought the stem of one should fit into the bottom of the other. |
