On Saturday we went to the Alamodome for one of the Cowboys training camp practices. We took Will last year and it didn't go so well- he screamed and then pooped all over his little Troy Aikman jersey. I ended up walking around outside carrying a pant-less screaming baby. So I was a little nervous to try it again but this year couldn't have been more different. We got incredibly lucky with seats and showed up right when they opened a new section. We were in the very front section, right in front of where the starters were practicing. We were about 40 ft from Tony Romo as he was warming up. Very exciting! And Will was such a good boy. He had is own seat in between the two of us and he loved looking around at everything. He'd play with his toys and clap when everyone else clapped. He eventually turned around and started "chatting" with the people behind us. He sat there entertained for about an hour and a half before he got antsy. Then I took him out front and we walked around for a while. Much better than last year! After the Alamodome we went to a Mexican restaurant downtown in a touristy area. Will enjoyed his warm tortilla (which they serve with all meals down here) and he loved listening to a Mariachi band. It was a great San Antonio day!
We had our playgroup over to our house on Wednesday and I think it went pretty well. We had a nice spread of food- our rainbow fruit tray, blueberry muffins, angel food cake and goldfish crackers. Will nearly ate us out of strawberries and blueberries before the guests arrived. He's always loved blueberries but Wednesday was the first time I could get him to eat strawberries. Once he started he couldn't stop- he probably had 7 or 8 strawberries in one day, which is a lot for a little guy!
Once the kids arrived and started playing with Will's toys, he got a little upset. Especially when kids were driving his car! He did not like that at all and kept trying to open the door to pull them out. Eventually he calmed down and seemed to like the company. I covered our dining room table with butcher paper that kids could draw on. Will spent a lot of time in my lap "coloring" which mostly involved him picking up each crayon, inspecting it carefully, putting it down and picking up another. At least he wasn't eating them today. Progress! After coloring we had a snack and Will learned to eat the goldfish crackers after seeing other kids eat them. Now he loves his fishes! When it was time for the kids to leave, Will actually got upset and followed them to the door crying. He was sad to see his friends go. Everyone was tuckered out- Will slept for a couple hours that afternoon.
We're going to have a pretty low-key weekend. Will is resting up for the Dallas preseason game on Sunday. David and I agreed that we'd relax our no-tv-for-Will policy for sports. It's just not feasible for David to wait to watch all of his football until after Will is in bed. So Will will be cheering on Dallas this season along with Daddy. Now we just have to find him a little Cowboys shirt- his gear from last year just doesn't fit anymore.
Since I can't figure out how to caption the pictures directly below each one, the pictures below are: Will in between wardrobe changes before training camp, enjoying a strawberry before playgroup, the food spread for playgroup, and Will playing in the milk that he spilled.
