This week hasn't quite been smooth sailing as usual. Since Saturday Will has been doing some coughing and wheezing, especially in the morning. I kept waiting for him to develop a cold but he hasn't. He is acting completely normal and doesn't seem to feel bad- no congestion, no runny nose and no fever. Not even tummy issues. But the coughing has been enough to make me crazy- especially since he does it a lot at night. As of today his cough seems to be getting better and less frequent. Not sure what caused it but he seems to be feeling ok.
We had a couple of episodes of him waking in the middle of the night and needing to be rocked before going back to sleep. I was assuming it was related to the coughing. But...on the changing table a couple of days ago I noticed new molars! The two on top have already come through and the two on the bottom are just under the surface. Which explains some of his fussiness and reluctance to eat. He did a good job eating today but yesterday it was hard to get him to eat much.
Even without molar pain Will has been inconsistent with his eating habits recently. He is overall a good eater but sometimes he wants to be fed and sometimes he wants to feed himself. You never know what mood he's in! Some foods that he's eaten with gusto in the past he'll throw onto the floor without even trying. I have learned, though, that when all else fails he will eat quesadillas. Seems like I can get him to eat just about anything if I can heat it between two tortillas. Today for lunch he had a quesadilla with beef, brown rice, salsa and cheese and he loved it. We're trying to make the transition to him eating what we eat but it's been slow-going. But we're getting there.
For better or for worse (probably worse) we have relaxed a little on the "no screen time for Will" policy. Now that it's football season we have football on for the important games. And since Will loves Elmo I've been letting him watch Sesame Street a few times a week. We still keep the TV off most of the time but lately he does get to see his Elmo. He has started thinking that he can see Elmo on anything with a "screen." Yesterday he brought me my work Blackberry and said "Elmo?" Like he wanted to watch Elmo on my Blackberry. That's just not going to work!
And in news that makes his Daddy so proud- Will knows how to navigate my iPhone! I have an app on my iPhone that is Toddler Flashcards. The flashcards have pictures of objects, food or animals with the word written underneath and a voice pronouncing the object/animal. It's supposed to help kids learn new words and identify common objects. His favorite category is the animals because after each one is pronounced you hear the sound the animal makes. To turn the flashcards you just use the touchscreen and drag to the left, but you can go back and forth depending on which flashcard you want to see. Will knows how to navigate the flashcards and can go back and forth to find the animal he wants to hear. When he wants an animal to repeat, he knows to just tap the screen without dragging. His favorite animals on the iPhone seem to be snake (makes a fun rattle sound), rooster and chicken. It's handy when we're in public and I'm trying to keep him entertained. It's only a matter of time before Will is doing my tech support!
Finally- Will enjoys walking around the house with an unopened soft drink, pretending like he's drinking. Sometimes he pretends like he's drinking out of his blocks, like in the picture below. He also will "talk" on a "phone" when my phone rings. He usually is talking on some non-phone object but sometimes he'll look for his play phone. He even tells the person on the other end "bye" when he's done talking to them. It's a pretty funny sight!
