Vegas Baby!

We're back from vacation! The last few weeks have been challenging, to say the least. About two weeks before we went on vacation Will started coughing and wheezing. He still acted like he felt well so we didn't think much of it. It finally got to the point that it was waking him up at night so I took him to the doctor. The doctor said that it's probably just allergies. Will is now on infant Zyrtec and he has an inhaler. He hasn't had an official "asthma" diagnosis. The doctor said they don't diagnose asthma in children this young- they call it "reactive airway disease" instead. The inhaler seems to helping so we've kept him on it. At that visit Will was 26 pounds.

We left for Las Vegas the Saturday before last. Unfortunately our flight overlapped with Will's bedtime. He was good for the first twenty minutes or so then he started getting very antsy. He spent the last two hours crying. I walked him around the plane, stood in the back with the flight attendants, but nothing helped. We finally had to just sit down and let him scream. I don't think we were too popular on the plane but everyone seemed very understanding. As we were coming out of the jetway, I looked down at Will in the stroller and he had vomited all over himself. Luckly I had an extra change of clothes in the diaper bag. We changed him in the middle of the airport since we couldn't both go into a bathroom with him. By the time we had our luggage Will had finally fallen asleep on my shoulder.

The rest of the trip was just as much of a challenge. Turns out, Will was sprouting several new teeth at the same time. The first couple of days on vacation he was in some pain and very fussy. He wasn't eating much either. Then, he got a virus and had some bad tummy problems, including more vomiting in a restaurant. Unfortunately, he kindly shared the virus with me, David and some of the rest of my family we met in Las Vegas.

By the time we left Las Vegas Will was feeling pretty bad. We were prepared for the worst on the plane ride home but mercifully Will was an angel. He played with his trains, watched an episode of Sesame Street and then fell asleep on my lap. Not a peep! He woke up about ten minutes before we landed in a happy mood. When we got back to our house Will ran around the house trying to play with all of his toys at the same time like he hadn't been here in years. It was very cute.

The trip wasn't entirely a loss. David and I got to have some time together while Will stayed with Grandma Crockett or Aunt Erica. We saw a movie, had a nice dinner and saw Phantom of the Opera, which we loved. David won a round of Bingo and we saw some new sights. Will got to see a giant aquarium at Caesar's Palace, swam in the pool and enjoyed some people-watching.

We were so looking forward to coming home after Will's illness but it did not get any easier once we were back. David got very sick with the virus and something triggered my asthma and I was having some trouble breathing. I ended up taking Will to the doctor on Friday. At that appointment, after his virus, he was down to 23.5 lbs. :( I finally got to the doctor on Monday of this week. It's been a trying couple of weeks but I'm happy to report that we're all doing much better. We're not 100% yet but the worst is definitely over.

Will is still very clingy and is sleeping more than usual but he seems to be mostly back to his old self. We spent about ten minutes outside this afternoon, which is where these pictures came from. Will is usually such a ham when he sees the camera but I had a hard time getting him to look at the camera today. I also had a hard time keeping him from picking up Zoe's landmines! The weather here has been beautiful. If we're feeling well enough tomorrow we'll probably go to the park.

Also happening tomorrow...David's 31st birthday!! We're planning on taking him out to dinner and I'm making a chocolate buttercream cake with chocolate buttercream icing.

With Will not feeling well there aren't too many new skills to report. Unfortunately he has discovered that he can reach the kitchen countertops. Anything within a few inches of the edge he can reach and pull off the counters. He keeps us on our toes. A couple of nights ago, however, he tried to reach a pan on top of the stove. We've ordered a large plastic shield to install between the oven and the stove so he can't reach on top. He's just too tall for his own good.

Will loves to cuddle nowadays and his favorite thing to do is sit on my lap while we watch Sesame Street. He has his own booster seat at the dinner table with a Thomas the Train placement. He likes to play with his trains there and sometimes he gets to eat his meals and snacks there. He loves baths and runs to the bathroom the second we say the word "bath." He is very particular about bath toys though. He only wants one toy in the bath at a time. So if the blue hippo is in then the rubber ducky is out. There's a lot of stuff being thrown on the floor. He really enjoys having his teeth brushed. Makes it easier on us too!

That's about all I have. We're looking forward to getting out and enjoying the weather this weekend. We just bought a family pass to the San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium so we may go to the Zoo or Sea World sometime in the next couple of weekends. We're also going to try to make it to the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze at a local farm sometime this month. Hope we're all back to healthy so we can enjoy our San Antonio October!
