Wednesday we celebrated David's 31st birthday by going to Texas Roadhouse and eating chocolate cake back at home. Will has never been a fan of cake. Every other time I've tried to get him to taste it he either spits it out or throws it on the ground like it's poison. Then, on Wednesday we were making David's cake. When it was done I put it in the cake plate and on the kitchen table. Several times that afternoon Will would pull out the kitchen chairs and try to climb on top of the table to get to the cake. I managed to hold him off. But when it was time to actually eat the cake that evening he was at it again- trying to climb on the table to grab the cake. I put a little piece in a bowl for Will and he devoured it. Looks like we have a chocolate cake fan! Will has had a couple of other little pieces since and his eyes just light up every time. He makes a big mess but he loves it!
Also on David's birthday Will got a gift of his own- a new basketball goal. He has a very little one for babies but its just too young for him now. It only comes up to his knees or so. So we got him a big one that is adjustable. He's enjoying shooting hoops with Daddy.
This morning we went to the San Antonio Zoo for the first time. Since we bought the year-long family pass we didn't feel the need to see it all at once. So we saw all of "Africa" and a few other animals, including the aquarium. Will seems to think that animals are a nice, but unnecessary, part of a zoo. He was mildly amused by a leopard and the elephants but he mostly didn't care too much about the animals. He did, however, love the rocks in the landscaping, leaves on the ground and all the steps at the zoo. He also tried to climb onto every bench we passed. We think he'll get more out of it this spring when he's a little bit older.
David has Monday off so this is a three-day weekend for us. We're mostly going to relax and try to get back in the swing of things. Monday we have a babysitter so David and I will probably go out and see a movie. The little guy will probably get some park time. Can't beat that!
